Abstract

It is aimed to examine the predictor roles of quality of school life and school engagement on academic achievement. Study group consists of 204 students from different departments of Ankara University. The information about the students’ achievement is obtained by asking students their grade-point averages. “Students School Engagement Scale (Günüç & Kuzu, 2015)†and “Quality of University Life Scale (Doğanay & Sarı, 2006)†are conducted on the students so as to attain the data related with the students’ engagement and the quality of their life. The model in which academic achievement is a dependent variable, school engagement and quality of school life are predictor variables is analyzed by using regression analysis. In the study, it is concluded that the school engagement of the students is a significant predictor of their achievement, while quality of students’ university life is not a significant predictor of their achievement. It is revealed that there is a medium strength significant relationship between engagement and quality of school life. The results of the analysis made to find out the components of school engagement that best predict students’ achievement show that cognitive and behavioral engagement are significant predictors of the achievement. Emotional engagement does not significantly predict students’ achievement in this study.
